A yacht carrying around £38m worth of cocaine from the Caribbean to Europe has been intercepted by customs.

French customs stopped two Germans last week who were sailing from the Caribbean island of Grenada and found over a tonne of cocaine hidden in the 43er.

The suspects were then arrested and after further inspection £362,000 in cash was found on the boat, along with £812,000 in other goods.

German police say it was the end of an investigation in conjunction with the French and Spanish authorities that began back in 2009.

A Dutch man was arrested in Spain and a South African man was arrested in the Caribbean on Tuesday along with the two germans.
