10 Irish sailors rescued from stranded yacht on Lough Corrib
A group of four adults and six children were plucked from danger after their yacht became stranded in Lough Corrib in Galway yesterday (28 October).
A group of sailors were rescued after their twin-mast sailboat became stranded after hitting rocks in Lough Corrib in Galway yesterday.
The all-volunteer Corrib-Mask Rescue Team squad was launched in the evening and brought all 10 passengers safely to Lisloughrey Harbour with the Irish Coastguard helicopter on hand to oversee the operation and provide backup if necessary. The rescue was completed by 8 p.m., and the yacht was towed to safety.
The 10 sailors had become stranded when the weather took a turn for the worse on the Irish lake. The group was made up of four adults and six children, and the local rescue team was alerted at 7 p.m., local time.
A spokesman for the rescue squad said everyone involved was doing well: “Apart from being very chilled, having drifted for some time, all 10 were in good form thanks to the fast action of the Corrib-Mask Rescue Team – all volunteers.”
